Gießen gears up for March 15 elections with postal voting surge

The municipal word in Gießen are set for March 15, 2026, with voters choosing representatives for the district council and foreigners' advisory board. Nearly a quarter of eligible voters have already requested postal docs ahead of the election results. Officials are advising residents to act quickly if they encounter any issues with their documents.

Voters can apply for a polling card, which is processed on the same day or the next working day. Once approved, the card is sent by post within 24 hours, though delivery typically takes an extra two to three days. The entire process should not exceed a week.

Once received, the polling card allows voters to choose between casting their ballot by mail or in person. Those voting in person must bring both their polling card and valid ID to the polling station. Postal voters can return their completed orange ballots via the town hall's mailbox until 6:00 PM on election day.

The electoral register adds a blocking note to each polling card to prevent duplicate voting. If documents do not arrive within a week, voters should immediately contact the Gießen electoral office. Resolving issues on election day itself is often difficult, so officials urge voters to address problems beforehand.

Polling stations will be open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on March 15. For assistance, the elections department can be reached at +49 641 306-2011 or via email at [email protected].

The election process in Gießen is now underway, with postal voting already proving popular. Voters must ensure their documents arrive on time to avoid last-minute complications. Those who need help can contact the electoral office directly for support.
