Giessen’s News Café helps learners master German through local discussions
A new initiative in Giessen is helping advanced German learners build confidence through conversation. The News Café offers a relaxed space for people to discuss local news while improving their language skills. Meetings take place weekly, with no cost or registration needed.
The project runs every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Community Development Office for the Northern Inner City. Around 15 participants gather each session, though the space can accommodate up to 20 people. Attendees split into small groups, using articles from local papers like Gießener Allgemeine Zeitung and Gießener Anzeiger as discussion starters.
The News Café provides a simple way for advanced learners to connect with the community. Weekly discussions help attendees sharpen their language skills while staying informed about local news. Organisers continue to welcome new participants without any formal sign-up process.
