Gifhorn District to Build New Bike Path Along L284 by Spring 2026

The Gifhorn district is currently managing the plan approval process for a new bike path along the L284. The project aims to address the lack of a continuous bike path between Wesendorf and the federal road 4, improving cycling infrastructure in the region. However, no deadline has been set for the plan approval decision, making it challenging to predict a precise construction start date.

The municipality of Wesendorf has initiated the planning process for the bike path and has submitted the necessary documents to the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Traffic. The existing pedestrian path on the north side of the L284 is insufficient to accommodate both pedestrian and bike traffic, necessitating the construction of a new bike path on the south side.

The current planning status for the bicycle infrastructure on the south side of State Road 284 between Wesendorf and Federal Road 4 is in the final approval phase. The Gifhorn district is working as the planning authority on the plan approval decision. Once approved, the municipality will draw up the implementation plan for the project. Construction is expected to commence in spring 2026.
