Gifhorn secures €140K to boost local democracy through civic initiatives

The Gifhorn district has secured €140,000 in federal funding to support local democratic initiatives. The money comes from the Live Democracy! program and will back projects aimed at strengthening community engagement. District Administrator Philipp Raulfs highlighted the importance of such funding for fostering civic participation.

Gifhorn joined the Partnership for Democracy initiative in 2025. This network provides resources for activities that promote respectful coexistence and democratic values. The new funding can be used for a range of projects, including dialogue events, workshops, cultural initiatives, and participatory formats.

The district plans to collaborate with local partners to roll out measures that boost social cohesion. These efforts will also focus on deepening public understanding of democracy and celebrating diversity. While specific projects have yet to be announced, the funding opens up opportunities for community-driven initiatives.

Raulfs welcomed the financial support, emphasising that democracy relies on active involvement from residents. Further details on how the funds will be allocated are expected to be shared on the initiative's official website.

The €140,000 grant will help Gifhorn expand its democratic engagement programs. Local organisations and residents will have the chance to take part in initiatives designed to strengthen community bonds. The district's participation in the Partnership for Democracy continues to provide a framework for these efforts.
