In recent developments, former US President Donald Trump has attempted to ban transgender people from women's sports via executive order. Meanwhile, the UK Supreme Court has ruled that gender is binary, siding with anti-trans groups. These moves follow a pattern of marginalized people being targeted during crises.

Historically, such groups have faced scapegoating and blame. In Russia, the 'international LGBT movement' has been labeled 'extremist'. In Switzerland, the SVP's Nina Fehr Düsel criticized transgender youth healthcare access. In Germany, while no specific party has recently opposed the Self-Determination Act, the far-right AfD uses derogatory language against transgender people.

Author J.K. Rowling has also drawn criticism for opposing transgender rights. Social media has seen a rise in transphobic narratives, often claiming transgender people endanger or indoctrinate children. This follows a trend where greater visibility of marginalized people can lead to increased tension and backlash.

Magnus Hirschfeld, a gay Jewish sexologist, made significant strides in advocating for transgender acceptance in the 1920s before being forced into exile by the Nazis. Under Friedrich Merz's leadership, the German Bundestag refused to raise the Pride flag and barred staff from Pride marches.

These developments highlight a concerning trend of pushback against transgender rights. They underscore the need for continued advocacy and education to promote acceptance and understanding.
