Global Charity Drive Tackles Water Crisis and Climate Justice in 2023
Over 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to clean drinking water, despite it being a recognised human right. This year’s Bread for the World charity drive is tackling the issue head-on, focusing on water shortages, food security and climate justice as its core themes.
The annual campaign, run by the Protestant Church in Germany, has been raising funds to fight hunger and poverty since 1959. Donations collected during Advent—particularly on Christmas Eve—go directly to the initiative, which operates under the slogan ‘Drawing Strength for Life’.
The 2023 drive highlights the urgent need for clean water and climate resilience. Donations from German congregations will fund projects aimed at easing water shortages and strengthening communities. The initiative continues its decades-long work to address inequality and environmental challenges.
