GOP fury erupts as defence bill drops cryptocurrency ban on Bill Gates’ CBDC plans
The annual US defence bill has sparked frustration among House Republicans after key provisions were dropped in negotiations with Democrats. One major omission was a cryptocurrency measure aimed at blocking the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) by Bill Gates and other tech giants. Several GOP lawmakers have now criticised the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), raising doubts about its smooth passage.
The anti-CBDC provision, originally proposed by Congressman Keith Self, was excluded from the final bill. Republican leaders reportedly removed it because it was tied to an unrelated housing measure they opposed. This decision angered some in the party, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who accused GOP leadership of breaking a promise to include the cryptocurrency ban.
The omission of the cryptocurrency provision and other GOP priorities has left some Republicans reluctant to support the defence bill. With key votes still uncertain, the bill’s fate remains in question as lawmakers prepare for further debate on cryptocurrency concepts.
