Göttingen Honours Everyday Heroes with 2026 Civil Courage Award

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Göttinger Bürgermut-Preis, an award recognising acts of civil courage in the city. The prize honours individuals, groups, and institutions that stand up for democracy, diversity, and peaceful coexistence. Submissions will be accepted until Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The award celebrates those who intervene against injustice, defend core societal values, or support victims of discrimination. Eligible nominees include Göttingen residents or organisations that demonstrate courage in everyday situations—whether through direct action, public advocacy, or fostering dialogue.

Nominations are being coordinated by the Bürgerstiftung Göttingen (Göttingen Citizens’ Foundation) and the Göttinger Präventionsrat (Göttingen Prevention Council). Interested parties can find the nomination form and additional information on the foundation’s website. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Old Town Hall.

The deadline for submissions is February 10, 2026. Successful nominees will be invited to the public award ceremony in March. The prize highlights the importance of civil courage in maintaining a fair and inclusive community.
