Göttingen Wins DWA Climate Prize for Groundbreaking Rainfall Preparedness Plan
Göttingen and its Waste Management Authority (GEB) have triumphed, securing second place in the DWA Climate Prize for their innovative heavy rainfall preparedness project. This recognition comes from the German Association for Water, Wastewater, and Waste e.V. (DWA), with renowned meteorologist Sven Plöger serving as patron.
The city's Climate Fund offers free on-site consultations and financial support for private precautionary measures. Residents can access a public heavy rainfall hazard map to view flood-prone areas and obtain individual property information. The project provides a comprehensive information, consultation, and funding offer for property owners in these areas.
The project aims to reduce greenhouse gases and adapt to climate change consequences. It focuses on transferable, innovative, and effective measures. This is the fourth award for the city and GEB's commitment to heavy rainfall preparedness. The DWA, with approximately 14,000 members across Europe, is dedicated to developing a safe and sustainable water management system.
