Gov. Lombardo Calls Special Session to Secure Republican Assembly Seats

Gov. Joe Lombardo has convened a special session to maintain Republican party control in the Nevada Assembly. Assemblymembers Toby Yurek and Ken Gray have resigned, leaving two vacant seats. The positions will be filled by appointment, with Republicans chosen by county commissions ahead of the 2026 election.

Lombardo called for the session to keep Republicans in the two vacant seats ahead of the 2026 election. The appointments are set for the coming months, but specific details remain unannounced. The governor hinted at addressing significant unfinished business, including potentially Assembly Bill 238 and Senate Bill 457, during the session. However, he provided no specifics on the agenda.

The vacant Assembly positions will be filled by appointment, with Republicans to be chosen by county commissions from Clark, Douglas, and Lyon counties. The next regular legislative session is not until 2027, and Democrats currently lack enough votes to override vetoes by Lombardo.
