Governor Nikitin explores Balakhna’s historic churches and tourism revival plans

Governor Gleb Nikitin recently visited Balakhna, where he toured historic churches and discussed the town's development. The St. Nicholas Church, a 17th-century Russian Orthodox gem, was one of the sites he visited.

St. Nicholas Church, the oldest stone building in Balakhna, was founded by Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the capture of Kazan. It's the second oldest in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and a testament to the area's religious and cultural heritage. Governor Nikitin acknowledged the church's significance during his tour.

The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, built in the 18th century, was demolished during Soviet times. However, restoration efforts are underway, aiming to return this sacred site to Balakhna. Nikitin also inspected this church during his visit.

Balakhna, once a key player in salt-making, is now focusing on tourism. A new riverside promenade and a Salt Museum are planned to attract visitors. These developments were discussed during Nikitin's working visit.

Governor Gleb Nikitin's visit to Balakhna highlighted the town's rich history and future plans. The restoration of the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and the development of new tourist attractions aim to preserve Balakhna's heritage while boosting its tourism industry.
