Graffiti vandals strike two new Siemens Mireo trains days before service launch
Unknown vandals extensively spray-painted two parked trains belonging to Länderbahn at Plauen's upper station over the past weekend, causing significant property damage. The financial extent of the damage has yet to be determined.
The targeted trains are new Siemens Mireo models, scheduled to enter service on the Central Germany S-Bahn network starting this December.
One train was vandalized in the early hours of Saturday between 2:35 AM and 4:00 AM, with graffiti covering approximately 75 square meters. The second train was defaced on Sunday evening between 7:40 PM and 9:25 PM, with around 40 square meters affected.
Federal police have launched an investigation into criminal damage and are appealing for witnesses who may help clarify the incident.
In particular, authorities are seeking a witness who, around 5:00 PM on Sunday, alerted federal officers to a suspicious individual near the bridge over the railway tracks on B 92/Pausaer Straße in Plauen's Haselbrunn district.
