Luxembourg's New Grand Duke Guillaume Travels to Berlin - Grand Duke Guillaume Heads to Germany to Strengthen Ties
Luxembourg's new Grand Duke Guillaume is set to embark on a diplomatic visit to Germany on October 27. This courtesy visit aims to strengthen historical, political, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.
Guillaume, who ascended to the throne on October 3 following his father Henri's abdication, will be accompanied by Grand Duchess Stephanie and Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel. This is Guillaume's second foreign trip since taking office, following his visit to Brussels on October 24.
The grand ducal couple will meet with Germany's Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender at the Bellevue Palace in Berlin. Steinmeier, a member of the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), is known for his emphasis on democracy, European integration, and diplomacy. His meeting with the Luxembourg royals reflects his role as head of state in diplomatic and ceremonial functions.
Guillaume, the seventh sovereign of the House of Luxembourg-Nassau, will continue to strengthen the ties between Luxembourg and Germany. As Luxembourg, with around 670,000 inhabitants, remains the only grand duchy in the world, such visits serve to maintain its unique position and historical significance.
