Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Launches Digital Living Museum of Migrant Stories

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture, has launched 'Our People, Their Stories', a digital living museum. This initiative, driven by Markellos Petropoulos, collects and preserves the personal stories of post-war Greek migrants who shaped Australia's Greek community. Archbishop Makarios of Australia has urged young Greek Australians to learn these stories, warning that disregarding history is like severing a tree's roots.

Vrasidas Karalis, a professor at the University of Sydney, praised the project as 'an open museum'. It captures the lived experiences of migrants, their truth, not just theoretical narratives. The project, available bilingually at www.opts.org.au, collects oral testimonies, videos, and personal accounts. Makarios implored the community not to overlook this precious inheritance. Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni assured substantial support from Athens for the project.

The 'Our People, Their Stories' project documents the personal histories of Australia's Greek diaspora. It serves as a reminder of the community's roots and the contributions of its members. With backing from both the Archdiocese and the Greek government, this digital museum ensures these stories will be preserved and accessible for future generations.
