Green Party sharpens criticism of federal government at federal party conference - Green Party slams German coalition over inequality and weak climate policies
The Green Party has opened its three-day federal conference in Hanover with sharp criticism of Germany’s coalition government. Party leaders accused the administration of worsening economic inequality and failing on climate action. Delegates will also debate key policy changes, including a proposal to cut public funding for homeopathy. Co-leader Franziska Brantner set the tone by calling the current government 'bad for the country'. She highlighted economic stagnation, rising wealth for billionaires, and child poverty affecting one in four. Brantner also blamed the coalition for burdening young people with costly election promises and weak climate policies. The conference marks the Greens’ shift into a stronger opposition role. Delegates will finalise policy positions and prepare for the 2025 election campaign. The party’s focus remains on economic fairness, climate action, and reforming healthcare funding.
