Green Party’s Doris Kyri wins Lohmar council seat by a single vote
In a close race, Doris Kyri of the Green Party has retained her direct seat on Lohmar's city council. She narrowly defeated her challenger, Dominik Ebenberger, by a margin of just one vote. The result was confirmed following a recount requested by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The recount, which took place after complaints were raised, confirmed the original result. Doris Kyri received 170 votes, while Dominik Ebenberger received 169 votes. Despite the AfD's hopes to secure their first direct mandate in the Rhein-Sieg district, the recount did not change the outcome.
The distribution of seats on Lohmar’s city council remains unchanged. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) continues to hold 17 seats, while the AfD secures six. The town of Lohmar has since recounted a portion of the local election votes to ensure accuracy, finding no errors in the process.
The newly elected council will hold its constitutive session on Thursday, November 13. Despite the close race, Doris Kyri's victory ensures that the Green Party maintains its representation on Lohmar's city council. The AfD, however, will continue to hold six seats, falling short of their goal to secure a direct mandate in the Rhein-Sieg district.
