Henriette Held and Luis Bobga form new leadership duo of Green Youth - Green Youth Elects New Leaders Henriette Held and Jakob Bobga Amid Criticism

Henriette Held and Jakob Bobga, both influenced by the Fridays for Future movement, have been elected as the new leaders of the Green Youth. Held, a law student in Greifswald, previously headed the state youth wing in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Bobga, studying migration research in Osnabrück, was a federal board member. They take over amid criticism of the Greens' political direction and allegations of internal power struggles.

Held, who felt empowered by her Fridays for Future experiences, emphasized the climate crisis' social security aspects and opposed right-wing extremism. She criticized the Greens' recent politics, stating, 'Many are disappointed, including me. Too often, they've chosen power over conviction.' She advocates for greater youth involvement in political decisions.

Bobga, focusing on social issues and human rights, brings a different perspective to the leadership. He was previously a member of the federal board and now joins Held to steer the Green Youth. Their election comes as Jette Nietzard, a 26-year-old leading figure, faces criticism for provocative statements and an allegedly authoritarian leadership style, including accusations of power abuse and intimidation.

Held and Bobga's election signals a shift in the Green Youth's leadership. With their backgrounds in activism and critical views on the Greens' recent politics, they aim to engage young people more in political processes. Their focus on social security, human rights, and climate protection reflects the Green Youth's core values. They face the challenge of addressing internal criticisms and uniting the organization.
