Greens Win Municipal Elections in Darmstadt - Greens lead Darmstadt's U18 youth election despite vote share decline
Darmstadt's latest U18 youth election has delivered its first results, with the Green Party leading at 22.7 percent. Ballots where voters selected an entire party list have been counted, but further tallies will follow in the coming days.
The Green Party topped the poll despite a 4.7-point drop compared to the 2021 municipal elections. Their share of 22.7 percent placed them ahead of all other parties.
The CDU secured second place with 16.0 percent, a slight increase of 0.4 points. The SPD followed closely in third, earning 15.7 percent—a 1.0-point decline from their previous result.
Die Linke saw a rise, gaining 2.5 points to reach 9.9 percent. Volt also improved, climbing 2.6 points to 9.5 percent. The AfD recorded a sharp increase of 5.2 points, finishing with 9.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the FDP struggled, dropping 1.8 points to just 3.8 percent. Counting continues for ballots where voters did not select a full party list.
The results reflect shifts in youth support, with the Greens maintaining their lead despite losses. Further updates will arrive once all ballots, including individual candidate votes, are processed. The election took place between February and March 2026.
