Greifswald to Celebrate Local Heroes at 2026 Civic Reception
Greifswald is preparing to honour its volunteers with a civic reception on May 19, 2026. The event, usually held on May 14, has been moved due to the timing of Ascension Day that year. Residents are now invited to put forward nominations for three separate awards celebrating local contributions. Nominations are open for the 'Silver Griffin' award, the city's Book of Honor, and the Rubenow Medal. While the lord mayor selects the recipient of the Rubenow Medal, anyone can suggest candidates for the other two honours. The deadline for all submissions is April 2, 2026.
The nomination form can be found online at www.ourwebsite/civicreception. Proposals may also be sent by email to lordmayor@ourwebsite. For questions, the lord mayor's office is available by phone at +49 3834 8536-1101 or -1102. A jury made up of the lord mayor and city council members will review the submissions. The final recipients will be announced ahead of the civic reception at Stadthalle Greifswald.
The awards ceremony will recognise individuals who have made a significant impact in Greifswald. Successful nominees will be honoured during the event at the municipal hall. Further details will be released after the selection process is complete.
