Greifswald's housing debt relief takes major step forward on March 6

On Friday, March 6, 2026, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Interior Minister Christian Pegel will hand over official notices for the redemption of legacy housing debts in Greifswald. The event marks a key step in addressing the city's long-standing housing debt issues, affecting around 1,200 flats.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 AM in the Mayor's Office at Greifswald City Hall. Minister Pegel will formally present the redemption notices to two local officials: Achim Lerm, the city's building councillor and deputy mayor, and Ute Frahm, managing director of Wohnungsbau- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH.

Media representatives have been invited to cover the event. The notices are part of a wider programme aimed at clearing historical housing debts in the region.

The redemption scheme will directly impact approximately 1,200 homes in Greifswald. The notices issued on March 6 will confirm the city's participation in the debt relief initiative. Local authorities and housing officials will now move forward with the next steps in the process.
