Gröditz Wins Saxony’s Town Centre Revival with Historic Blacksmithing Plan
Gröditz has won the top prize in Saxony’s Back to the Center! town centre competition. The small town in the Meißen district beat over 60 other entries with a plan to revive its historic blacksmithing roots. This year’s contest also saw record participation since its launch in 2004.
Gröditz’s winning project, titled 808 Years Later: Forging a True Heart for Our Town, focuses on transforming the town centre into a lively hub. The plan blends historic blacksmithing traditions with modern spaces designed for all age groups. Judges praised its balance of heritage preservation and community needs.
Gröditz will now move forward with its blacksmithing-themed revival, while Adorf/Vogtland and Burgstädt implement their own prize-winning plans. The funding from Saxony’s ministries will help turn these concepts into reality. All three projects aim to create more vibrant, inclusive spaces at the heart of their communities.
