Dubai, United Arab Emirates - flydubai has officially commenced construction on its first Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South, marking a significant step in the carrier’s growth and operational maturity. The multimillion-dollar facility, spanning 32,600 square metres, is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2026.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, and officials from the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH). The event underscored the significance of this development for both flydubai and Dubai's aviation sector.

The new Aircraft Maintenance Centre will house an aircraft hangar, support workshops, and office buildings. Once operational, the centre will support over 600 skilled engineers, enabling flydubai to have increased control and faster maintenance turnaround for its expanding fleet. This capability is expected to improve the airline’s operational efficiency and reduce downtime, supporting continued network expansion.

Ghaith Al Ghaith stated, "The Aircraft Maintenance Centre will play a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and supporting flydubai’s continued fleet expansion." He further added, "This investment underscores our commitment to developing advanced aerospace facilities within Dubai South, contributing to the emirate’s aviation ecosystem and its global competitiveness."

The Aircraft Maintenance Centre is strategically located near Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and is expected to benefit from Dubai South’s integrated aviation and logistics ecosystem. The establishment of this state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility aligns with broader strategic goals to strengthen Dubai's position as a global aviation hub by enhancing infrastructure and capabilities in the aviation sector.

Khalifa Al Zaffin stated, "The Aircraft Maintenance Centre project strengthens Dubai’s status as a global aviation hub, reflecting our commitment to developing world-class facilities that cater to the needs of our growing aviation industry."

This project is a result of an agreement signed at the 2023 Dubai Airshow between flydubai and MBRAH. The engineers will be distributed across technical departments responsible for maintaining the safety and airworthiness of flydubai's aircraft. The Aircraft Maintenance Centre is set to provide greater in-house maintenance control and faster turnaround times, further bolstering flydubai's position as a leading carrier in the region.

The Aircraft Maintenance Centre, a strategic development for flydubai, will house a skilled workforce of over 600 engineers, contributing significantly to the aviation industry of Dubai. This centre, a testament to Dubai's commitment to advancing aerospace technology and strengthening its global competitiveness in the industry and finance, will improve operational efficiency by ensuring faster maintenance turnaround for the expanding fleet.
