Guido Déus Elected Mayor of Bonn, Faces Coalition Challenge

Guido Déus has been elected as the new mayor of Bonn, winning the runoff election with 54 percent against incumbent mayor Katja Dörner with 46 percent. Despite the victory, forming a stable majority for a coalition in the city council is proving challenging due to political differences, particularly with the Greens.

Déus, a member of the CDU, will now face the task of mediating in the city council, where a stable majority for a coalition is needed but politically unlikely with the Greens. On election night, Dörner set a respectful tone by visibly congratulating her challenger, indicating a willingness for coexistence.
