Gurten Mountain to Get 26-Room Seminar Hotel in 2026
The Gurten-Park im Grünen Foundation is planning a 26-room seminar hotel on Gurten mountain, a popular spot near Bern. The project, supported by Migros Aare, requires demolishing an existing structure and relocating critical radio installations. Negotiations with the federal government have been underway since 2022.
The current Gurten Hotel offers only two rooms, but the foundation aims to capitalise on the conference business with the new hotel. A feasibility study concluded that renovating the current building was too costly, making new construction the more viable option. The intended building site belongs to the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (VBS), which houses critical radio installations. These installations must be relocated to a new underground bunker as part of the project.
Gurten mountain attracts hikers, day-trippers, and conference attendees, making it an ideal location for a seminar hotel. The foundation anticipates significant economic benefits without encroaching on additional green spaces. The Migros Culture Percentage fund supports the Gurten Park project.
The Gurten-Park im Grünen Foundation's hotel project on Gurten mountain is expected to boost the local economy without harming the environment. However, negotiations with the federal government must conclude successfully to ensure the relocation of critical radio installations and the necessary approvals for construction.
