Guwahati Mayor Unveils Rs 70 Lakh Plan to Boost City Infrastructure
Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania has unveiled a two-year plan to enhance the city's infrastructure and services. The projects, totalling around Rs 70 lakh, aim to improve sanitation, roads, and public spaces.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will construct around 200 public toilets with an allocation of Rs 20 lakh. Each of the city's 60 wards will also receive Rs 10 lakh for new streetlights. Additionally, the GMC office is set to move to a new six-storey building in Betkuchi, with the existing Uzan Bazar office transforming into a large market space.
GMC has allocated Rs 40 lakh for the construction and repair of city roads. The corporation has already cleaned 441 drains and plans to cover a total of 555, along with cleaning five major rivers. To improve waste management, GMC plans to introduce small, portable high-mast lights for social events, with 13 already set up in cremation grounds and 17 more to follow.
Mayor Mrigen Sarania's plans aim to benefit over 12,000 people yet to obtain commercial permits, with a training camp scheduled from November 15. The projects aim to enhance sanitation, road infrastructure, and public spaces, contributing to Guwahati's sustainable development.
