Guwahati's New Dinesh Goswami Flyover Opens to Ease Traffic Woes
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opened the Dinesh Goswami Flyover in Guwahati on Wednesday. The 1.2-kilometre elevated corridor connects Machkhowa with the Shantipur Swiss Gate area, aiming to ease traffic in the city's busy Bharalumukh stretch.
The flyover was originally set to open by March 10 but was inaugurated later. Built at a cost of around Rs 100 crore, it has been named after former Union Minister Dinesh Goswami to honour his contributions to Assam and national politics.
The structure is expected to improve east-west connectivity within Guwahati. Daily commuters travelling through Bharalumukh will benefit most from the new route. However, the project has led to the permanent closure of Railway Gate No. 9.
Authorities have directed traffic onto the elevated corridor to streamline movement in the area. The flyover marks a key step in strengthening Guwahati's urban infrastructure.
The new flyover provides an alternative route for commuters navigating Bharalumukh. Its completion follows a delay from the initial March 10 deadline. The project is now operational, with officials expecting reduced congestion in the coming months.
