Halle and Saale District Merge Fire Dispatch to Boost Emergency Response

Halle (Saale) and the Saale district have agreed to merge their fire and rescue dispatch centres. The decision follows years of cooperation and aims to cut costs while improving emergency services. Both councils have now approved the plans, with construction of a new control centre set to begin soon. The idea of combining the two dispatch centres first gained traction in 2023 when the district council voted in favour of the merger. Since 1996, Halle's control centre has already managed emergency responses for the northern part of the Saale district. Now, the partnership will expand further.

On 25 February 2026, Halle's city council approved the cooperative agreement. Shortly after, the Saale district council adopted it unanimously. The councils also greenlit funding for six urgent civil engineering projects, all set to begin in 2026. These will be financed through the Special Infrastructure Fund, with costs listed as extraordinary expenditures in the 2026 investment budget. A new joint control centre will be built at An der Feuerwache 5/7 in Halle (Saale). Construction is expected to finish by 2028. The merger promises to streamline administration, reduce personnel costs, and create efficiencies for both the city and the district.

The project moves forward with full financial backing from the Special Infrastructure Fund. Once completed, the new control centre will serve as a shared hub for emergency response across the region. The councils anticipate smoother operations and long-term savings from the merger.
