Halle’s Bike Path Plan Sparks Clash Over Dragon Boat Club’s Event Space
A proposed bike path near Osendorfer Lake in Halle has caused a dispute between local groups and authorities. The plans threaten to block space used by the Halle Dragon Boat Club for their 15-meter event tent. Municipal committees remain divided over how to resolve the issue.
The conflict began when the new bike path design was revealed. The Halle Dragon Boat Club warned that the route would occupy land needed for their large tent during competitions. This led to heated discussions in city committees.
The Environmental Committee suggested rerouting the path to protect the club’s space. However, the lower nature conservation authority rejected this idea. They argued that the alternative route would harm ecologically valuable oak trees.
With two opposing recommendations—one from the Environment and one from the Planning Committee—the city council now faces a difficult choice. A partial solution was later proposed: a 25-meter detour for the bike path that avoids cutting down trees while keeping the tent area free.
The issue will be debated in the upcoming Stadtrat session, expected within the week following the latest reports in December 2025.
The city council must decide between protecting the dragon boat club’s event space and preserving the oak trees. The proposed detour offers a middle ground, but a final decision remains pending. The outcome will affect both cyclists and the club’s future events at Osendorfer Lake.
