Halle's Public Transport: Major Changes Ahead

Halle's public transport network is set for significant changes. HAVAG, the local transit provider, has announced plans to relocate tram termini and install new infrastructure. The changes aim to accommodate ongoing construction and improve connectivity.

The most notable change is the relocation of the HAVAG tram terminus from Zentrum Neustadt to the 'Pfarrstraße' stop in Halle-Trotha. This new connection point will serve as a hub for both tram and bus lines, enhancing public transport integration.

The construction of the HAVAG bridge has led some drivers to switch to public transport, highlighting the need for efficient tram services. To accommodate this, a temporary terminal stop will be set up at Zentrum Neustadt, with a climbing crossover installed for smoother transitions.

Infrastructure maintenance requires timely action. HAVAG cannot afford to wait indefinitely for subscribers, leading to the decision to proceed with construction sites despite potential additional costs. The track change behind the S-Bahnhof Neustadt stop will be removed to facilitate these changes.

The construction site at the racetrack intersection is expected to last for a year and a half, with a future terminal stop with track change planned at the swimming pool. Critics have noted the duration and additional costs of the construction coordination, but HAVAG maintains that these changes are necessary for the city's public transport infrastructure. The new terminus at 'Pfarrstraße' and the temporary measures at Zentrum Neustadt aim to minimize disruption and improve overall service.
