Hamburg-Nord District Office's SPD Event Poster Sparks Controversy
Hamburg-Nord's district chiefs have sparked controversy by sharing a poster for an SPD event on its official social media channels. The Greens have criticised this move, arguing it violates the neutrality requirement for district offices and distorts democratic competition.
The poster in question promotes the 'RISE' urban development project and features SPD district chief Bettina Schomburg as the guest speaker. Schomburg took over the position from the previous Green district chief Michael Werner-Boelz in September 2022. The Greens contend that this sharing of party political material breaches the principle of neutrality expected from district offices.
The district office, however, maintains that it was merely informing citizens about a public event. It has agreed to review the individual case in light of the criticism, aiming to ensure optimal information for citizens without compromising neutrality.
The sharing of the SPD event poster by Hamburg-Nord's district office has raised concerns about neutrality and fair democratic competition. The office has committed to reviewing the matter, seeking to balance public information with political impartiality.
