Hundreds of Suspected Rental Fraud Cases in Hamburg Unprocessed - Hamburg’s 1,200 rent gouging cases remain unresolved since 2021
Hamburg’s Red-Green Senate has yet to process any of the 1,213 reported cases of suspected rent gouging since November 2021. Despite growing concerns, authorities point to heavy workloads and complex investigations as the main reasons for the delay.
Since late 2021, Hamburg has received over 1,200 reports of possible rent violations. However, not a single case has been addressed by the Senate. This stands in contrast to Berlin, where housing enforcement has successfully imposed fines and secured rent reimbursements for affected tenants.
Hamburg’s tenants continue to wait for action on rent violations, with no cases resolved since 2021. The Senate’s proposed reforms aim to improve efficiency, but the backlog remains unresolved.
