Hamburg’s Cycle Route 11 expansion faces unexplained delays in Harburg
Major delays have hit the expansion of Cycle Route 11 along Hannoversche Straße in Hamburg’s Harburg district. The project, already months behind schedule, is one of many causing traffic disruptions across the area. Officials have yet to explain the reasons for the hold-ups.
The Harburg district office currently manages 18 construction sites, including key routes like Hannoversche Straße, Jägerstraße, and Eißendorfer Pferdeweg. Despite the backlog, the office does not permit multi-shift work on any of its roadworks. This restriction may be contributing to the slow progress.
Unlike some other authorities, the Harburg district does not use a bonus-malus system to encourage on-time completion. The lack of incentives or penalties means there is no extra pressure to speed up delayed projects. For Cycle Route 11, no official explanation has been given for why the work has fallen so far behind schedule.
The ongoing delays continue to affect traffic flow in Harburg, with no immediate solutions in sight. Without changes to working hours or financial incentives, further setbacks remain possible. Cyclists and drivers will likely face disruption for some time to come.
