Hamburg’s U4 subway expansion to add two new stations by 2026
Hamburg’s U4 subway line is set to expand with two new stations connecting Grasbrook and Horner Geest to the city’s rapid transit network. The plans are now open for public review, giving residents a chance to voice concerns before construction moves forward. Once complete, the extension will cut travel times and improve access for thousands of commuters.
The project includes two key stations: Grasbrook and Horner Geest. The Grasbrook stop will sit above the Moldauhafen, linked by a 300-metre bridge featuring carbon-reinforced elements. This design will also create a new pedestrian and cycling route between the Moldauhafen and Hafentor districts, reducing reliance on private cars.
The U4 extension aims to strengthen Hamburg’s transport links by connecting growing neighbourhoods to the rapid transit system. With faster commutes and better pedestrian access, the project could reshape travel patterns in the area. Final approvals will depend on public input and ongoing construction progress.
