Hamilton man charged with first-degree murder in 2023 shooting death of Daniel Musafiri
A 29-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Daniel Musafiri. The incident took place in December 2023 near York Boulevard and Queen Street North. Police confirmed the arrest after months of investigation.
Daniel Musafiri, 25, was found with a gunshot wound on 29 December 2023. He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. Investigators discovered he had been at Boulevard Billiards before the attack.
The confrontation happened in the parking area of 103 Queen St. N. A brief argument took place before the suspect opened fire. Witnesses reported seeing the gunman flee in a black Dodge Challenger.
Erik Kalanyos was already in police custody on unrelated charges—suspicion of drug dealing—when detectives linked him to the murder. After 48 hours in detention, he was formally charged with first-degree murder.
Musafiri's mother, Mosengo Immaculee, spoke about the devastating loss of her son. Her statements highlighted the deep impact of the tragedy on the family.
