Hamm's International Women's Day events tackle gender equity with workshops and film

Hamm is preparing for a week of events to mark International Women's Day, with a focus on gender equality and women's rights. The programme includes workshops, film screenings, and discussions, all organised by 12 local groups and initiatives. Activities will run from March 3 to March 12, offering something for everyone.

The week kicks off on March 3 with an exhibition and expert forum on preventing domestic violence. Two days later, resilience and self-defence workshops will take place on March 4 and March 5.

On March 6, the Hammer Mama Party—a long-standing local tradition—returns to Kulturrevier Radbod. The same day, author Nicole Jäger will present her book Unbreakable, with all proceeds going to Hamm's women's shelter. Additionally, the World Day of Prayer will highlight the lives of women in Nigeria.

Later in the week, service clubs will host public discussions on women's rights on March 7. The programme wraps up on March 10 with a cinema special, screening the French film Mr. Malcolm's List.

While Europe has closed around 75 percent of its gender gap, full equity remains distant. Current estimates suggest global gender parity will take another 135 years at the present rate.

The events in Hamm bring together local organisations, authors, and activists to address ongoing challenges in gender equity. From workshops to film screenings, the programme aims to raise awareness and support women in the community. Organisers hope the week will inspire further action toward closing the remaining gaps.
