Hamtramck mayoral race heads to recount after six-vote defeat sparks dispute

The Hamtramck mayoral election has taken another turn after Muhith Mahmood requested a recount. He lost to Adam Alharbi by just six votes in a tightly contested live election. The dispute centres on 37 absentee ballots that were excluded due to procedural issues, sparking concerns among residents about fairness in the us election results process. Before certification, the unofficial results showed Alharbi leading by 11 votes. The margin narrowed further after election officials reviewed 150 absentee ballots initially rejected for signature problems. Most were later accepted and counted, but 37 remained uncounted because of a broken chain of custody. The recount will examine all ballots, including the disputed absentee votes. If the outcome changes, Mahmood will recover his costs for the process. For now, Alharbi remains the certified winner, but the final decision rests on the recount’s findings.
