Hanau's bold new plan to transform job opportunities by 2026

Hanau is rolling out a new labour market strategy to help people struggling to find work. The plan focuses on better networking, training opportunities, and easier access to jobs. From January 2026, the city will also take over direct management of basic income support for jobseekers.

The city's approach rests on three key areas: building stronger connections between employers and jobseekers, improving skills through education, and creating clearer pathways into work. Local organisations are working together to support long-term unemployed residents, young people without school qualifications, and refugees.

One major project is the expansion of 'Community Work Opportunities' at Sportsfield, which will now include those receiving citizen's income. Hanau Infrastructure Service is also providing placements in public works, road maintenance, green space upkeep, waste collection, and street cleaning. For those interested in care work, the Martin Luther Foundation Hanau offers easy entry points into the sector. The Job Center provides personalised coaching for both job hunters and employers. Businesses can also access the city's joint employer service for help with recruitment, training, and funding for new staff. Financial support is available to encourage hiring, with wage subsidies covering up to 100 percent for long-term unemployed individuals in some cases.

Hanau's strategy aims to create more job opportunities through training, placements, and financial incentives. The city's direct control over income support from 2026 will further streamline assistance for those seeking work. Local partnerships and targeted programmes will play a central role in connecting people with employment.
