Hanau’s New Social Security Forum Unites Jobs and Welfare Under One Roof

Hanau has opened a new Social Security Forum to improve support for job seekers and social welfare. The centre, launched on January 2, 2023, brings together the Social Welfare Office and Job Centre under one roof. Officials hope it will create better employment opportunities and stronger workforce participation in the city.

The Social Security Forum is located at Willy-Brandt-Straße 23, inside the newly established Sozialzentrum. Its main goal is to provide faster, more personalised help by combining counselling, skills training, and job placement in one place. The centre also works closely with local employers to match people with available jobs.

Before this, the Social Welfare Office and Job Centre operated separately. Now, their shared location aims to simplify access and improve teamwork between the two services. The city has taken full control of its labour market policies, allowing it to design solutions specifically for Hanau’s residents. Mayor Dr. Maximilian Bieri spoke cautiously about the launch, calling it a promising step. He stressed that adjustments would be made based on early feedback. The forum’s approach focuses on individual needs, offering tailored support to help people find sustainable work.

The Social Security Forum represents a shift toward more direct, citizen-focused governance in Hanau. By uniting social services and employment support, the city aims to reduce bureaucracy and speed up assistance. Its success will depend on ongoing collaboration between local agencies and employers.
