Harry causes new tensions with future king - William's title used

Prince Harry was recently introduced as 'Harry Wales' at a high-profile polo event, sparking debate over his use of the title. The name 'Wales' is now officially linked to Prince William and his family, leaving observers questioning whether the reference was intentional or a mistake.

Critics quickly pointed out that Harry’s correct title is the Duke of Sussex, not Wales, and the mix-up led to confusion among attendees and on social media.

The incident took place at the St. Regis World Snow Polo Championship in Aspen on 19 December 2025. During the event, the announcer referred to Harry as 'Harry Wales,' a name he used during his military service and childhood. The title 'Wales' is now associated with Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and his children, making the reference stand out as unusual.

Some observers suggested Harry might have been trying to subtly reconnect with his royal past, especially after stepping back from senior royal duties. Others saw it as an innocent oversight, given that 'Wales' was once part of his identity. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has previously stressed that her official title is the Duchess of Sussex—a ducal designation rather than a surname—shared with her children. The use of 'Wales' drew immediate backlash online, with critics arguing that it incorrectly implied a current royal role. The controversy highlighted the ongoing public interest in how Harry and Meghan present themselves since their departure from frontline royal life.

The event’s organisers have not commented on why the announcer used 'Harry Wales' instead of his proper title. The incident has reignited discussions about how former senior royals are addressed in public settings. For now, Harry remains the Duke of Sussex, while 'Wales' stays tied to William and his family.
