Saxony-Anhalt's Minister President Reiner Haseloff is pushing for a clear military time concept that resonates with the public, as part of ongoing reforms. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is banking on voluntary military service to boost the Bundeswehr's numbers to around 260,000. Haseloff's upcoming trip to Lithuania on October 16, 2025, includes a visit to the German brigade and a meeting with Brigade General Christoph Huber.

Haseloff, currently in the Baltic region, is discussing security matters. He recently met with Lithuania's Minister of Economy Edvinas Griksas in Vilnius, exploring potential drone development cooperation. The Minister President wants to combine resources and create structures for better civilian-military collaboration. He stressed the need for broad acceptance to implement the military service concept effectively.

The Union, however, has doubts about relying solely on volunteering for recruitment, sparking debate within the black-red coalition. Lithuania, sharing a border of approximately 679 kilometers with Belarus, plays a crucial role in the EU's external border security.

Haseloff's visit to Lithuania on October 16, 2025, will allow him to discuss these issues further with the German brigade stationed there. His focus on clear communication and cooperation in the military sector aims to strengthen both civilian and military organizations, ultimately enhancing Germany's security.
