Hawaii County Police Chief Hiring Expedited for April Completion
The Hawaii County Police Commission is rushing to hire a new police chief, aiming to complete the process by mid-April. This follows the resignation of Chief Ben Moszkowicz in July.
The commission accepted Moszkowicz's resignation and is now expediting the hiring process. Previously, it took around four months. On Friday, September 20, the commission will finalize key steps, including drafting written questions for applicants.
The commission is keen to fill the role quickly to ensure departmental stability and attract qualified candidates. Deputy Chief Reed Mahuna is currently serving as interim chief.
The commission is considering limiting recruitment to Hawaii residents, following public testimony supporting a local hire. The application deadline is October 31.
