Hawaii man accused of assaulting disabled woman in her sleep faces felony charges
A 40-year-old man, Adonis Higa, is accused of a serious crime in Hawaiian Paradise Park. He is charged with attempted forcible sexual assault on a 68-year-old woman, an amputee who was asleep and unable to move at the time of the incident. Higa's preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.
Higa, who has a history of criminal offenses including a prior conviction for felony domestic abuse and being a felon in possession of a firearm, entered the woman's unlocked bedroom and approached her bed with his genitals exposed. The incident lasted approximately two minutes, during which the victim tried to push Higa away and asked him to stop. Higa is now facing a Class B felony charge of attempted second-degree sexual assault, punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.
Higa's bail is set at $50,000, and he remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center pending his hearing.
Higa's past criminal record, including his previous conviction for a serious offense in Hawaii, has raised concerns about his behavior. His alleged actions against the vulnerable victim have shocked the community. The upcoming preliminary hearing will determine the next steps in this case.
