"4 Blocks Zero": The Hamadys' backstory is told - HBO Max’s *4 Blocks: Zero* Unveils the Ruthless Rise of Berlin’s Hamady Family

A new crime drama, 4 Blocks: Zero, is set to arrive on HBO Max in autumn 2026. This prequel to the hit series 4 Blocks will explore the rise of Berlin’s notorious family, the Hamadys. The eight-episode season dives into their early years in Germany during the chaotic 1990s.

The Hamady family, a fictional Lebanese family, will be at the centre of the story. Living in Germany on temporary toleration, they struggle to establish themselves while navigating post-reunification Berlin. Their journey from outsiders to powerful crime figures forms the core of the series.

The prequel reveals how the family builds a criminal empire. By exploiting the lawless atmosphere of the early 1990s, they expand into drug trafficking and nightclub operations. Corrupt alliances with police and politicians help them eliminate rivals and dominate Berlin’s underworld. Tareq Nassery takes on the role of young Tony Hamady, replacing Kida Khodr Ramadan from the original series. The character’s transformation from an ambitious outsider to a ruthless crime boss will unfold across the eight episodes.

The first season of 4 Blocks: Zero will launch exclusively on HBO Max in fall 2026. Viewers will see the origins of the Hamady family’s power and the violent tactics they used to secure it. The series promises a gritty look at Berlin’s criminal underbelly in the 1990s.
