Head of Sochi Andrei Proshunin Visited the Inclusive Center 'Special Childhood'
Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin recently visited the Special Childhood inclusive center in the Makarenko District. The facility, founded in 2017 by the charitable foundation Way to Life, provides free support for children with developmental challenges and their families. His visit followed a major renovation funded by a 5 million ruble subsidy.
The Special Childhood center was established to help children with disabilities and their families through free, comprehensive programs. These include social adaptation, rehabilitation, and career guidance, alongside educational activities like music, arts, and adaptive physical education. The center also runs skill-building workshops tailored to individual needs.
The facility’s holistic approach extends support to parents and caregivers, ensuring families receive guidance alongside the children. A team of special education teachers, dedicated volunteers, and parents of children with disabilities staff the center.
Mayor Proshunin toured the newly upgraded spaces during his visit. He took time to view artwork created by the center’s participants, highlighting the creative and therapeutic aspects of its programs. The 5 million ruble subsidy covered essential renovations, improving accessibility and learning environments for all users.
The Special Childhood center continues to serve as a key resource for families in Sochi. With updated facilities and a wide range of programs, it offers practical support for children’s development and family well-being. The mayor’s visit underscores the city’s ongoing commitment to inclusive community services.
