Helios Clinic Zerbst Closes - Concerns Grow About Healthcare Access - Helios Clinic Zerbst to Close by Year-End, Sparking Care Concerns
The Helios Clinic in Zerbst is due to close by the end of the year, with inpatient services set to cease on December 19. The closure has sparked concerns about access to medical care in the area, with the Left party in the state parliament warning of a significant gap in basic care.
Patients in Zerbst and surrounding areas may face longer journeys for treatment, as seen in previous closures in Genthin and Havelberg. However, the outpatient care center at the clinic will remain open, offering specialties such as gynecology, orthopedics, surgery, gastroenterology, and radiology on weekdays. The medical care at the Medical Care Center (MVZ) is also under review for potential expansion and improved opening hours.
A meeting involving the clinic management, Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, and the health ministry discussed options for retaining and expanding outpatient care. Around 270 employees at the clinic were informed about the closure and discussions about employment opportunities at other Helios locations are underway. Landrat Andy Grabner of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district has called for a sustainable solution involving all parties to maintain and potentially expand existing services by December 19.
The Helios Clinic in Bitterfeld-Wittenberg has plans to preserve and expand its outpatient care facilities, including maintaining the outpatient center and considering expansion of general practitioner care at the medical care center (MVZ) and improvements in opening hours. Minister of Health Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) has stated that the goal is to ensure the care structures in the area remain robust despite the closure of the inpatient services in Zerbst.
