HelloFresh Co-Founder Thomas Griesel Steps Down After a Decade
Thomas Griesel, co-founder and long-serving board member of HelloFresh, will step down by the end of April 2026. Griesel's departure comes amidst the company's recent struggles and a change in its CFO position. Meanwhile, the company's manager for international business is also leaving.
Griesel, who has been instrumental in making HelloFresh a global leader, will leave his position on the board after nearly a decade. John H. Rittenhouse, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, praised Griesel's vision and commitment. Griesel, in turn, expressed pride in HelloFresh's achievements and optimism about its future.
The company, which went public in 2017 and is now listed in the MDAX, has been facing challenges. Sluggish meal kit demand and underperforming ready-made meals have led to a downward revision of its 2025 revenue target. Despite these hurdles, HelloFresh serves customers in 18 countries and delivered nearly a billion meals in 2024, with consolidated revenues of €7.66 billion and adjusted EBITDA of €399 million.
Fabien Simon has been appointed as the new CFO, set to take up his position in the coming days. However, Griesel's position on the board will not be immediately filled, and there is no announced successor yet.
Thomas Griesel's departure from HelloFresh's board marks the end of an era for the company. While the reasons behind his decision remain unclear, Griesel's legacy as a co-founder and driving force behind HelloFresh's success is undeniable. The company now faces the task of filling his significant shoes and navigating its current challenges.
