Helmstedt’s longtime district administrator steps down ahead of 2026 elections
Gerhard Radeck has announced he will not seek re-election as district administrator in Helmstedt. His current term ends in November 2026, leaving the position open for the upcoming local elections. Residents have been urged to take part in the vote that autumn.
The long-serving Kreisvorsteher (Landrat) confirmed his decision ahead of the 2026 municipal elections. Radeck, who has held the role for years, stated he would step down when his term concludes. No candidate has yet been named to replace him.
With the election set for autumn 2026, Radeck has called on Helmstedt’s residents to engage in the democratic process. His departure marks the end of an era for the district’s leadership.
The search for a new district administrator will now begin in earnest. Radeck’s exit leaves a key role to be filled before the November 2026 handover. The outcome of the election will shape Helmstedt’s local governance for years to come.
