Hermann Parzinger to Lead Berlin's Capital Cultural Fund as New Curator

Hermann Parzinger has been named the new curator of Berlin's Capital Cultural Fund. The appointment follows his long career in cultural leadership, most recently as president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Officials have welcomed his experience and vision for the role.

Parzinger brings decades of expertise to the position. A trained archaeologist and historian, he previously led the German Archaeological Institute before heading the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation from 2008 to 2025. His work there earned praise from federal culture minister Wolfram Weimer, who highlighted his strong leadership and commitment.

In his new role, Parzinger will oversee jury meetings, assess project proposals, and guide advisory discussions. He will also represent the fund publicly, promoting its mission to support contemporary art and culture in Berlin. The Capital Cultural Fund focuses on initiatives with national and international significance.

Berlin's culture senator, Sarah Wedl-Wilson, expressed confidence in the appointment. She described the fund as being 'in the very best hands' under Parzinger's direction.

The Capital Cultural Fund continues its work to strengthen Berlin's artistic and cultural landscape. Parzinger's leadership is expected to shape its future projects and partnerships. His background in heritage and archaeology adds depth to the fund's strategic direction.
