Hero of WWII Reburied in Korenevsk After 80 Years
The remains of Private Stepanych Ivaschenko, a hero of the Great Patriotic War, have been reburied with military honors in Korenevsk, Korenevsky district. A minute of silence was held to remember him and all fallen defenders of the Motherland.
Private Ivaschenko, who worked at a sugar factory before the war, died in 1943 near the village of Myasnaya Bor in the Novgorod region. His remains were recently discovered by the search team 'Memory Descent' from Tyumen and reburied in his hometown.
The reburial is part of a larger effort to honor the soldiers of the Red Army. Since the beginning of 2023, 282 such soldiers have been reburied with military honors in the Kuban region. Alexander Tararykin, the Head of the Administration of the Krasnodar Krai, attended the ceremony.
Private Ivaschenko's granddaughter, Galina, remembers him fondly. She recalls that trees on the factory grounds were planted by her grandfather. Flowers and wreaths were laid at his grave, a poignant reminder of the respect and gratitude felt for his sacrifice.
