Hesse Boosts Sports Funding, Plans Infrastructure Upgrades
Hesse's commitment to sports promotion was underscored at the Hessian Sports Association's annual conference. Minister-President Boris Rhein reassured attendees of the state's dedication, with significant funding increases and new initiatives announced.
The state's financial support for sports has grown substantially. Since 2017, funding for sports promotion programs has tripled. Looking ahead, the Hessian Sports Association will see a boost of around 3.5 million euros, bringing its total funding to nearly 28 million euros from 2024 to 2026.
Rhein advocated for the federal government's special fund to be used for sports infrastructure investments. This includes plans to renovate sports halls, playgrounds, and swimming pools using the 'sport billion' allocation. Additionally, performance sports clubs supporting state and federal squads will receive 200,000 euros for training camps, coaching hours, equipment, and coach qualifications.
Juliane Kuhlmann, the president of the Landessportbund Hessen, was re-elected for another three years. She welcomed two funding decisions from Rhein, highlighting the state's continued support for sports despite budgetary challenges.
Hesse's commitment to sports is evident in its increased funding and infrastructure plans. The state's dedication to promoting sports, despite financial constraints, bodes well for the future of sports in the region.
